If you read my last post on Time Lapse Movies With Quicktime, you will have noticed that you can use images taken from a camera. The one of the problems I faced for a long time, and bugged my immensely, was the applications that was opened when you connected a camera. After a lot of searching on my computer, I found the small applications that is hidden away which can change the settings. You may also be able to do it in iPhoto, Aperture etc, but this post is designed to cater for every one.
The application we are going to use is Image Capture. It is one of those applications that doesn’t do a lot until you need it the most, and cannot find it. Image Capture is located in your Applications folder. When you open up the application there is the option you want to change. “When A Camera Is Connected, open”. You can then chose which application you want when a camera is connected. A simple drop down box that is hidden away.
You can also do a lot more with Image Capture, such as downloading images, doing other commands such as cropping images automatically as they are inserted. But the main setting of this program is what happens when a camera is connected.
This sort of option is something that should be present on an Preference Pane. Hopefully this might be changed in a future revision.
