Show Only Active Apps In The Dock 5
Terminal
Hey
Here is another quick tip that may be useful to anyone who doesn’t like the current design of the Dock. The ability to only show applications that are running. Personally I think this reduces the point of the Dock, but people have different opinions. If you want to show only running applications type into Terminal.
defaults write com.apple.dock static-only -bool TRUE
killall Dock
It will take a couple of seconds for your computer to do its magic. When you have finished the dock will look similar to the image below.
There are a couple of problems with this little trick, for instance Stacks disappear. As well as this something funny happened with my menu bar, however this could be due to me switching between the commands.
If you want to revert the process repeat TRUE, in the command above, with FALSE, and everything should be back to normal.
If you want to keep up with the latests post from Mac Tricks And Tips I recommend you subscribe to the RSS Feed.

Couldn’t you simply drag each app out of the dock? That way you get the same effect (only open apps show up) and you can keep your stacks.
