Automatically Play Videos In QuickTime Player 2
Trick
Hey
Its the weekend again, which gives me a fleeting moment to write a post. Over the last couple of days I have been using the new version of QuickTime Player for playing videos. I really like it and it works a lot better than the older version found in Leopard. This little trick will enable any video to automatically play when you load it in the player. This is similar to VLC and enables you to sit back and relax rather than hitting play. This trick only works in Snow Leopard where the new app is found.
To run this trick open Terminal. This is found in Applications > Utilities. In the app write, or copy and paste, the following.
defaults write com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX MGPlayMovieOnOpen 1
Restart QuickTime Player if it is open. Now when you play a video you should see that it plays straight away. If you want to reverse the process type the following.
defaults write com.apple.QuickTimePlayerX MGPlayMovieOnOpen 0
Original functionality will return. This is a little trick, however I think it is pretty cool and enables you to watch your video straight away.
Where To Next?

Although I expect Apple to add a QuickTime X preference pane in an upcoming 10.6.x update, I use the third party QuickTime preference pane offered at:
http://megabytecomp.com/apps.aspx
It allows for automatically playing QuickTime videos plus more.
