Photos define our lives. Everyday billions of photos are taken, each with there own meaning. One of the best ways to show your photos off is in the form of a screen saver. This post will show you how to set up your screen saver so it can show you your favourite library of images. We are also going to take this a step further and set it up so we can see the latest photos in your photo stream. This way you take have the latest photos taken published to your screen saver.
Set Up iPhoto and Photo Stream
If you haven’t set up iPhoto and your iOS device with Photo Stream I suggest you do so. For more information please read turning on iPhoto Photo Stream and iCloud Photo Stream. Both of these guides explain how to turn on Photo stream.
Set iPhoto Library and Photo Stream As A Screen Saver
Setting up the library is very simple. Open System Preferences. Select the Desktop & Screen Saver preference pane. From the preference pane select the Screen Saver tab.
You can select the type of slide show from the left hand column. In the right hand pane there will be a source drop down menu. This is where you can select the library or folder you want.
Quick Tip: If you can’t see iPhoto Library from the list, find the library using the chose folder option. If you have moved the iPhoto library, which I have, you need to re-associate the link by reselecting the iPhoto library like you would any other folder.
You can select which month photo stream you want from the drop down list. This will always play that month photo stream.
If you want to select a specific folder in your iPhoto library use the Photo Library option from the drop down list. This will open up a pane in which you can select the iPhoto folder you want to select.
If you select the Photo Stream option from the list this will always display the latest photos. Selecting the top level Photo Stream options will display the latest files. If you select the option under Photo Stream (which is also called Photo Stream), this will display every photo stream file.
You can use this option to select any folder you have created. You can select photos by faces. If you are so vain that only want photos of yourself you can select your face from the Faces option in the iPhoto browser.
You can select any iPhoto library folder to display images from. You can select any folder. You can also be more specific such as selecting a persons face.
If you want to show photo stream files, you can use the drop down list in the source option. If you want it to update with the latest and greatest photos you have taken you have to select the Photo Stream option from the iPhoto Library folder picker. Note that every photo you take that is placed in Photo Stream, even the naughty ones you may not want other people seeing.
I also believe this option works with Aperture if you have it installed.
