This post is going to show you how to turn them off. We are going to go a step further and show you how to set them for specific email address, for example you favourite contacts. This way you still get the message from people you like, not a constant barrage.
Turn Off Email Notifications
To turn off email notifications open System Preferences and select the Notification preference pane.
From the preference pane select Mail from the list. You will be presented an option for the alert style select none.
Deselect the check box titled ‘Show In Notification Center’ this will remove emails from Notification centre.
Both of these options will disable emails from ever showing in Notification Centre.
Set Email Notifications From Specific Emails
If you like the notification centre pop ups but don’t want one for every email you can tune what notifications you receive.
Open Mail and select Mail > Preferences. From the general tab there is an option regarding new notifications. You can set this to new emails, from contacts, VIP’s or a smart folder.
If you find that selecting contacts or VIPs is not quite working, you can set up a smart folder. Just set the email addresses you want to receive in the folder.
It is not too difficult to set what you want. Like many of these tips it is knowing which options to select.
