How To Vertically Select Text Within TextEdit

Hey,

This is a neat trick that I found the other day. If you use TextEdit for writing down notes you can vertically select characters from the body of text. For example, if you have a list of items that is well organised and neatly lined up, a mini table or sorts, you can select all of the items within a column. This is a great way to edit items that are directly underneath each other. To edit these items simple hold down the option key (between control and command) and then select vertically.

You have to be a little bit careful in the way you select items, however with a little bit of practice you can the hang of it. I have started using this tip more frequently as I have a lot of formatted text documents where things are neatly lined up and it is a great way to edit a column.
