Normally when you have you full screen apps set up, when you Alt + Tab or click on them in the dock they will automatically switch to that application. It is the normal way of getting to them. However, if when you do those actions all you end up with is the menu bar of the app, and the full screen app doesn’t display, it can be rather annoying. There is a very simple fix to this which allows you to restore this functionality.
Restoring Switching To Full Screen Apps
To restore the ability to switch to full screen apps, open System Preferences. Select Mission Control.
Select the second option within the list, “When switching to an application, switch to a Space with open windows for the application’.
Full screen apps, actually occupy a space. This command switches to the space which has an app window, in this case the full screen app. When this is de-selected it simply switches to the app, but doesn’t take you to the open window.
It is a rather confusing option, but is the one you need to check in order to switch to a full screen app correctly.
