I love the photos app on my Mac, it is one of the tools I have open every day and is immensely powerful, granted it doesn’t have the power of Photoshop, but it is pretty good for most users. Today’s post is going to show you how to use the cropping tools within the application. A good picture is made great with a small amount of tweaking. The best method is to have a good crop to bring the focus of the image to the front.
Open the Photos app, select the photo you want to crop and select Edit in the top right corner. From the list on the right hand side select Crop.
From here, you have many options to chose from. The first is Aspect. Select the aspect ratio you want. Square is very popular for social media, 16:9 will fit most modern monitors and 3:2 or 4:3 will fit most prints.
From here, you can move the image within the box given. Use the rule of thirds to get a tight crop on the image. I prefer minimal space from the border to bring the image into focus.
By the way, if you like the cufflinks pictured, you can find them on my Etsy Shop.
For an advance cropping technique, select the corner and hold the alt key to scale each edge at the same time. This in effect is the same as zooming into the image. Hold Shift and select the corner to only adjust one corner while keeping the aspect ratio.
Use the awesome tools provided to make your images a little bit more better.
