Shortcut To Bring Up Shutdown, Sleep or Restart

Hey,

This is a quick post to show you how to quickly bring up the dialog box or shutting down, restarting or putting your Mac to sleep. This dialog box has disappeared from recent versions of the latest Mac OS. To bring it back simply press the Control + Eject key. This tip, obviously, only works for those Mac’s that have an eject key so is more of legacy short cut.

This dialog box was common in old OS's. You can bring it back.

If you want additional shortcuts you can press:

  • Command + Option + Eject, to go straight to sleep.
  • Command + Control + Eject, to restart.
  • Command + Control + Option + Eject to shut down.

Not the simplest of short cuts but handy if you do need them. I can’t remember the last time I had to shut down.
