A couple of days ago I had a review and competition of Radium Radio Player. Within it there has a small competition which allowed a couple of you to win a copy of the app. Anyway, I have put your names into a random number generator and we have some winners. Your email addresses will be given to the developers and you should receive your code soon. Those that didn’t win, better luck next time. A couple of days ago I did a review of Today by SecondGearSoftware, its a little iCal helper. I really like the app and I have been using quite a bit over the last couple of days. The authors of the program have been really kind and granted me 3 licenses to give away for this app.

If you cast you minds back to last week I mentioned about iCandy. The app where you make barcodes from your digital media and you can send them to family and friends. Anyway they were offering a deal where you can get a $10 iTunes voucher for submitting feedback. I received one of these vouchers. I can’t use it since I am in the UK so I cam going to give it away.

Its been a couple of weeks since we have last done a competition, so it sounds like I should do another one. This one is slightly different as I am offering up two different apps courtesy of Koingo. As a winner you get to chose the one you want. There are 2 copies of MacPilot and 2 copies of MacCleanse up for grabs. As usual the competition will last a week, all you have to do is leave a comment.

The Apps

A brief introduction to the apps themselves. MacPilot is designed to find all of those little secret bits in the system which you can change. These are usually the ones you have to access with Terminal. MacPilot can do all of theses changes plus a whole load more automatically for you. If you like customizing your Mac, this program is for you.

MacCleanse is designed to purfiy your system as the authors have put it. If you want to put your Mac on a botox diet MacCleanse will clean log files, caches and other system places to make sure your Mac is squeaky clean. Both applications are really useful for keeping your Mac upto speed.

The Competition

Quite a while ago I mentioned about a new sponsor of MacTricksAndTips, FixTunes. They have kindly let one of you lucky guys win one of four codes for there application. This means you get the application for free. This competition was going to be planned for earlier in the week, although one thing leading to another and various bumps along the road have caused it to be delayed. Anyway, this post will tell you a bit about the application and your chance to win. It will run in a similar fashion to the ActionGear competition I held earlier this month.

Review

Fixtunes, as the name suggests is a program designed to fix your iTunes library. For example if you have a small spelling error when you named your songs, this program is designed to find these problems and solve them for you. Although iTunes uses the Gracenote database when importing CD’s if you got them from other sources or didn’t use the database, this type of tool will come in very handy.

Fixtunes has three main settings, Fix One by One (recommended), Fix All, and Find Duplicates. I personally recommend using the fix one by one option. Simply because you can personally review the song, using the automatic method is good, although I can’t quite take the leap of faith with my iTunes library.

Actually fixing a song is easy, it goes through your library one by one. It will then go to various databases and find the various pieces of information and guesses the correct result. It needs a good start otherwise it doesn’t work very well. If you have a track named “Track 1″ it isn’t going to find the correct pieces of information. You can then accept the results or tweak them slightly and move on.

It will take your a while to fix all of your tunes if you go through your library one by one. But a good library is always worth it. This application if you were going to buy it costs $24.95. Which is a decent price for what you get. I would like it to be a little cheaper, but then you always do.

Action Gear Mini-Review + Competition

Hey

If you cast your mind back a couple of days a new sponsor of the site joined the ranks. This site was ActionGear. They have kindly offered as part of their promotion a competition to give away three (3) licenses of their new application ActionGear. You can win a new copy without having to do much at all. This post it self will split down into two sections one for the mini review so you know what ActionGear is about and the competition with the rules and regulations.

Review

Action is your to-do list organizer. It is designed to quickly and easily organise your to-dos so you can quickly add, remove and manage what you have to do. In this life you need something simple to keep track of the millions of things that are always bugging up. Although there is to-do managers in Mail and iCal, they are not very useful. ActionGear incorporates far more features and settings to make it really useful.

It is simple to use ActionGear. You simply add your task using the buttons below, these are action (your to-do), reference and attachment. You can use them for different things. You then set some variables such as tags, flags, and other data and you are ready to go. You can then sort and organise them as you would with any other application. It is quite hard to explain all of the hidden features without rambling or going on for pages and pages. The best option really is to download the app or check out the video explaining a bit about the application.

Personally I think it is a good application. There is only a couple of draw backs. One, it doesn’t have a dock icon so you can’t Command + Tab into the application, your have to use the shortcut or the menu bar option. This does get a little annoying personally. I am always using Command + Tab and this seems to brake my habit. Another slight, but less worrying drawback is the price. It is a little expensive at $29, but if you do use it a lot you will get your monies worth.

If you cast you mind back, over two weeks ago I did two competitions for Sugar Sync and Pages Templates.The competition closed last night. But due to time constraints I was unable to pick a winner and write a post. But, now is the lucky time for a couple of winners to receive some prizes. I wont be giving them out directly, I will forward your emails on to the companies who own the product and they will send you your prize.

Sugar Sync

This post is a gentle reminder that the two competitions on Mac Tricks And Tips are about to end. Both the Pages Competition and the Sugar Sync Competition will run till the 16th of July. So you have only two days left to enter. There is still a chance that you could win.

If you can’t remember the competitions. The Pages competition sponsored by OneEyedGoldfish, enables you to win one of three template packs worth £40. All you have to do is leave a comment asking to win. Over 37 people have entered so you still have a 1 in 10 chance (ish) of winning.

A bit earlier today I mentioned a new sponsor OneEyedGoldfish. He sells Pages templates for you to use in Apple’s iWork application Pages, the desktop publishing software.
