Quite a while ago I mentioned my Top 50 Terminal Commands. These were terminal commands that enabled you to access “hidden” features of the operating system. I reality they are not hidden, they are not on any preference pane. This is where the Secrets Preference Pane comes in. It includes hundreds of commands that enable you to find hidden settings at the click of a button. It is similar to working with Terminal except everything is organized in pleasant to view lists and drop down boxes for your convenience.

This is a quick tip to enable you to remove both screen savers and system preference panes from your system. It is not strictly an uninstallation, but it can move them to the trash, or hide them from view. Its a simple method that I didn’t know about until I started messing about inside the preference panes.

Did you know that your Mac has a fully built Apache web server built right in. You can access it through http://localhost/~User/ with all of the files stored in /Users/~User/Sites/ . This is a full apache install. When you turn web sharing on from System Preferences (System Preferences > Sharing > Web Sharing), a very important step, you can surf you Mac and serve a very basic web page/site. The problem with this is that it doesn’t have php enabled. This is a problem for anyone who wants to take it a step further and start developing more dynamic websites. As a result I have written this guide which will show you how to enable it. There are two methods the long and hard way which usually encounters many problems or the quick and easy way. This guide is intended for Leopard so it may differ on older systems. If you do encounter any problems leave a comment. I will try and answer them with the best of my knowledge, although it is out of the scope of this piece. As a side note enabling this is usually for development only and not to actually serve websites on the net, since it is highly unsecure. They are designed for developing websites. If you do want to serve websites on the internet I suggest finding a web host or reading more in depth into how this technology works.

The Wii is one of the coolest gaming consoles around. I just love the concept and games on it. So what is better than paring your Wiimote with your Mac. Its doesn’t take long and the results are really fun.
To pair your Wiimote head over to Remote Buddy and download the software. There is a free trial for 15 days. As well as this the final version doesn’t cost the earth, only 20 euros. Anyway once you have downloaded and installed the software your are ready to go. It may take a little way and ask you to install a couple of extra drivers.

This is one tip is really quite interesting. For a really long time I couldn’t for the life of me find out how to move Menu Bar items around. As a result I found the items that I wanted to use disappearing since I have so many and the ones I use tend to get hidden by applications menus such as help etc.
